The D word: First Weigh In

I’ve been putting this off for about a week now but I finally got the courage to post this. I weighed myself this morning and I was shocked to see the numbers on the scale! I have never weighted this much in my life and I can’t believe I let myself get like this.
This morning I weighed in at 174.4! I am only 5’5 so for my frame and height, that is a whooole lot! I shouldn’t really be shocked because my bad eating habits are what got be here, but I am very ready for a change! I have decided to start not a diet but a life style change. No starving myself or trying fad diets that work temporarily, been there don’t that, I am going to have to change my bad habits and replace them with healthier ones. I’m a “make a list” for everything type of girl and this new lifestyle is no exception. Here are the rules I will be following:
  •       Eat 3 healthy meals a day with 2 healthy snacks in between.
  •       ½ of each meal will consist of vegetables.
  •        ¼ of each meal will consist of protein
  •        ¼ of each meal will consist of something yummy lol I don’t want to deprive myself or I will just get discouraged and stop.
  •        Snacks with be healthy: Fruit, string cheese, etc.
  •        At least 45 minutes of exercise 5 times a week. I’m scheduling that my days off will be Tuesdays and Sundays.
  •        Drink more water. No juices or soda. Fortunately this will be very easy for me because I already don’t drink soda and only have juice every once in a while, but I will be drinking more water then I usually do.
  •        No eating after 7:30 pm. I get home from work late and go to bed late so this is an ideal time for me.
  •        I am going to allow myself a cheat date. Not to go crazy and eat whatever I want but I wont be as strict. I will watch the portions of what I eat. I know from experience if I deprive myself I will fall of the wagon HARD. This may not be the fastest way to lose weight but I’m not interest in fast, I’m more interested in long term.
I I will be weighing my self every Monday morning and posting an update. Along the way I will be trying new recipes and workouts and researching ways to stay motivated. If you are also on a weight loss journey, let me know ways you like to stay motivated or yummy snack ideas! I am always interested is hearing what you guys are doing! If you are also documenting your journey, post a link below! I need all the motivation I can get!

  1. You can do it Carol! I telling you the meat made a huge difference in my diet lol my face looks much slimmer and pretty again I used to have a chubby face and that's gone now. I've only been doing this for a WEEK!!!! I already lost 1/2 an inch around my waist. My rule is to only eat when I am hungry. Never eat when you aren't hungry that's what makes us fat. Also buying organic foods helps you to not eat when you aren't hungry lol cuz it's expensive hahaha I love you and know that you will treat your body with the respect it deserves ;)

  2. Congrats on making your first step! Aside from the haters I mentioned in my beautylish post I found posting online to help keep me a little more accountable.

Today is my first day back in the game as well. I'm a Weight Watchers girl. I applaud you for having the self discipline to do it without a structure plan for you.

I won't wish you luck because none is needed. I know you can do it! It just takes will power.

  3. Good for you girlfriend! I support you all the way and you are actually approaching it from a healthy angle which seems so rare these days. When I diet I have to have a "cheat" as well otherwise I can't keep it up. However, I still cheat with moderately healthy stuff like darck chocolate or a homemade pastry that I know exactly what went into it!

I wish you the best of luck and a strong spirit in the face of your challenge :)
