Week 1 Diet FAIL

Ok so it wasn't the most successful week of dieting lol. Between job hunting and hurricane Irene, I really lost focus this week. I did have days where I made great meal choices, then there were days where my lack of preparation had me eating junk. Not to mention the 2 days locked inside because of the hurricane spent just eating...alll day long!  Now that its out of my system, I can get back on track. Lets be honest, I know there will always be days where I eat a burger instead of a salad, the important thing is to get right back on track and not just consider your diet "ruined" because of that burger, slice of pizza or that cookie you couldn't resist. Here are a few easy healthy meal ideas I tried this week and some of the not so healthy ones.

Healthy meals and snacks

The day I ate this salad I was craving a slice of pizza SOOOOOO badly! I was strong enough to overcome the temptation and had this salad instead. And you know what, it was delicious! I was so glad I had the salad and not the pizza. I still have to get my brained used to the fact that healthy food can taste just as good as junk food. I started off with just iceberg lettuce with extra virgin olive oil seasoned with a tiny bit of salt and pepper. I added 1 chopped up hard boiled egg for some protein and began eating. Then I remembered I had a tub full of roasted soy nuts and decided to add a little to the salad for that extra crunch factor. O-M-G it was amazing!  This is such an easy meal to make! filling and delicious! You can even add chicken and tomatoes.  Healthy doesn't have to be boring!
This meal here was a new for me. Other then losing weight, I also want to be healthier. Being healthy doesn't just mean eating less and eating only veggies. Believe it or not, most of the veggies you are eating are genetically altered and are treated with pesticide. Organic eating is something I'm new to and have tons to learn about but I am more then willing to learn and change. I went to whole foods and picked up tons of things I have never tried before. Organic whole wheat spinach raviolis and Tofurkey (Turkey tasting tofu) was the first organic meals I made. I boiled the ravioli, heated up the Tofurkey in a pan. While the raviolis were draining, I heated up a pan with chopped garlic and added olive oil. Once the garlic has a little color I added in the raviolis and tofurkey and added some parmesan cheese. The raviolis were very yummy! You could taste that they were organic right away. They almost tasted earthy...does that make sense? lol Now the tofurkey on the other hand lol not for me! The first few bites weren't bad but by the last few I couldn't handle the taste anymore. They have such a strong smell and honestly, it was making me nauseous. Thats what trying new things are about though, trial and error!

I love these organic granola bard from Nature's Path! They make for a great snack and a little reward for working out. Yes, I totally bribe myself ! Whatever works right? lol

Here are a few other healthy meal and snack ideas I tried this week:

  • By far my favorite snack is frozen strawberries! You can get a bag of these from the frozen food isle. They are perfect to make smoothies or even just put a few in a bowl and much on them. Since they are frozen, they take a while for you to eat which gives your stomach time to send the "Im satisfied' signal to your brain.
  • Soy nuts- I keep these in a zip lock bag in my purse, whenever Im getting hungry i'll snack on a handful of these to hold me over till my next meal. You cant let yourself get to hungry or you will pig out at your next meal. I also loved these on my salad!
  • For breakfast, I've been having wheat Thomas' Bagel Thins which are only 100 calories with light cream cheese and sliced tomatoes. So yummy!
Remember, one of the most important things to do while you are on a diet is be prepared! If you already know what you are eating and have everything at home, you are less likely to do a drive thru drive by. What I like to do is have all my salad indigents already washed and chopped up so that I can made my salad quickly.

Not so healthy meals and snacks

Big FAIL! lol

What are your favorite healthy snack ideas?

August Favorites and Reviews!

Its about that time again....monthly favorites time!! This month I dont have many makeup related items, it's more a mixture of things I found myself reaching fro over and over again. Iv ben using a few of these for a while now so I will also be including a few reviews.

Fitness Magazine $5.99 1 year subscription
Review: I'v been on a health kick for a while now so I've been flipping trough a ton of these health magazines. Fitness is my favorite! It had tons of helpful articles that were easy to understand and apply to my life. I feel like Shape and some other ones had more advertising then actual useful information. Click HERE to get a full years subscription for only $5.99!!

Nature's Path 2/$6 Whole Foods
Review: These are organic granola bars that were recommenced to my by Jocely J. I got them at Whole Foods for 2 boxes for $6 and they are sooo yummy! It's a nice sweet treat that you wont feel guilty about. My favorite is the Peanut Choco, click HERE to see all their flavors.

Revlon ColorStay Lipliner $7.99 CVS
Review: Amazing! Lasts FOREVER!! I just got this last week but I already love it. It has become one of those makeup items that you cant live without and will buy over and over again and even buy back ups just incase they ever stop making it. I have never seen a lipliner with this much longevity in my entire life. It goes on smoothy and is in a retractible pencil form which is a huge plus..no sharpening!I highly recommend this!

Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner $8
Review: This has quickly replaced my Wet n Wild gel liner. The brush it comes with is just as great at the product it's self. The shape of the bristles allows you to create as thick or thin of a line as you want. The brush glides smoothly over the product and picks up the perfect amount effortlessly. It lasts all day and wipes off easily at the end of my day with my makeup wipe removers. No having to scrub it off lol. I do recommend using a primer or setting powder to avoid any smudgyness towards the end of the day. Im going to be doing a post comparing this to the Wet n Wild, so look out for that to see swatches and get more info.

ELF Stipple Brush $3
Review: I love this brush for applying blush and bronzer. The soft bristles pick up the perfect amount of product and gives you a perfect smooth airbrushed looks. This brush is amazing for just $3! I reach for this brush more then my Crown Blush Brush!

Nuance Brightnening Facial Serum & AM/PM Super Creme $19.99 each
Review: I want to keep this review short because I am going to do an in depth review very soon. For a drugstore product, I really feel that this product works. It makes my skin feel soft and hydrated. It also smells sooo good!  After the second time using the Brightening Serum I already noticed my dark spots getting lighter. I know with a few more weeks of use, I will be able to skip my medium/full coverage foundation and opt for just a tinted moisturizer and still feel confident in my skins overall look.

PRO-FX Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat $4.97 Walmart
Review: This is the last step in my nail routine every time I switch polishes! It cuts drying time in half and adds a nice high gloss finish. I'v never had any problem with it chipping and for half the price of Seche Vite, It cant be beat! Plus, the bottle size is huge...2.5oz! I've only seen these at Walmart but good luck finding them because every time I go there they are all sold out!  They also have other formulas like Apricot Cuticle Oil, Strengthener, Protein Base Coat, and lots more. Click HERE to check out the whole line.
Jilbere Ceramic Tools Straightening/Cutting Comb $6.99
Review: I never realized how important this comb is to me until I was trying to figure out what to include in this monthly favorites. I use this every single time I straighten my hair. It took a little getting used to at first but now I can not straighten my hair without it. The pointed end helps you section off the hair you want to straighten and when you clamp it down, the comb side smoothes out your hair so your straightening iron glides over your hair and evenly reaches every strand of hair. Not to mention how many burns I'v avoided with this. Its such an amazing tool to have! Sections, combs and protects hands in one easy step! I got this years ago at Sally Beauty.

Number 4 Lumiere d'hiver Reconsonstructing Masque $58 5.1oz
Review: I got this in my August BirchBox and have been using it ever since. I've been trying to use as little as possible each time so the sample bottle can last as long as possible lol Once a week I apply about 2 quarter size drops (recommended quantity depends on length and thickens of your hair) to my towel dried hair and leave in on over night. Every once in a while I will distribute about a quarter size drop into my wet hair and use it as a leave in conditioner. Other times I will leave it in my hair for 15 minutes and wash it out. Just depends on what I feel my hair needs at the time. This makes your hair smell so good, even after you was it out! It smells like perfume so if you dont like scented hair, this is not for you. I have to be honest though, with a $58 price tag, I will not be repurchasing the full size bottle. It works well but I am perfectly happy with the way my Aussie 3 Minute Miracle for $4 works!

What are some of your August favorites???

Daily Deals: CVS

I
love the feeling of getting a great deal! I try to go to CVS once a week to check out what sales they have going on. Before I go, I always make sure to look at their weekly store ads online and jot down what I'm interested in, that way I know exactly where to go once I get there (not that I dont still browse the entire store anyways lol). I also ALWAYS check my email, every few weeks I get a 20% off coupon sent to me (I think if you have an Extra Care card and are signed up for their Beauty Club, you should be getting one to. Make sure to check and take advantage of this great offer!) For this trip, I was lucky to have a $1 off coupon for any Maybelline Mascara. Mini Review and First Impression
Infusium 23 shampoo and conditioner: I'v only used it once so far but after I used it my hair felt so soft and bouncy! I have thin limp hair so it is practicality impossible to get any natural volume. I felt like I got some from just using this duo. I'll review it again once I'v been using it for a while.
Revlon Lipstick in Rosey Nude: Its a little darker then I would have liked, Its more like a dark mauve, not a Rosey Nude.
Revlon Color Stay Lipliner: OMG I drew this on my hand to take a picture of the swatch and when I went to rub it off...I couldnt!! I am so impressed! It would not rub of no matter how hard i rubbed. Iv never seen anything like it! I will never buy another brand of lipliner in my life, Revlor Colorstay is the best I have ever seen!
Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies: I'v seen mixed reviews on this so I wanted to try it myself. This mascara really does give you noticeably thick lashes. I was actually surprised. I havent testes the longevity of it yet so stay tuned for that. I dont like that it looks a little clumpy and that my lashes dont look long and straight, they almost look messy.

I LOVE CVS!! Here are a few ideas on how to save money when you shop there.
  • Sign up for a Extra Care Beauty Club Card. They keep track of how much you spend on    beauty products and once you reach $50, you receive $5 Extra Care Bucks. Find out more about the Extra Care Beauty Club HERE.
  • Check your email for any coupons. I receive a 20% off coupon every few weeks. The coupon can be used online, or in stores. If you prefer to shop at the store, you have the option of sending the 20% off coupon to your Extra Care card or it can also be printed.
  • When in the store, search for the "Magic Coupon Machine"!! Its the big red price scanner usually found in front of the store. A lot of people dont know that if you scan your Extra Care Card, it will print out coupons!! Iv gotten coupons $5 off my purchase of $30 or more, free chocolate, free bandages, free Kotex, $2 off any 2 NYC products, $1.50 off any Maybelline Lash Blast, $3 off Revlon cosmetics...the list goes on and on! This machine is your best friend! take advantage of it!
  • Check your Sunday paper and other drugstores for Manufactures Coupons. Most of them can be added to your CVS coupons.
  • Always check the CVS Weekly Ad to see what deals they have going on. You can check on line buy going to CVS.com and clicking on "Weekly Ad" at the top right corner. Just enter your zip code and select a store near you.
  • I also always like to browse the entire store lol. I didnt see anything about the Infusium 23 BOGO Free sale in the weekly ad, i spotted it when I was in line waiting to pay! So glad I saw it!
Do you have any tips or tricks to saving money at CVS??
Also, have you tried the Jergens Natural Glow Express?? Let me know what you think!

Hurricane Irene is almost HERE!

Here we go again! I moved from South Florida to NY and now Im going to get hit by a hurricane here?? Growing up in SoFL, preparing for a hurricane is second nature. I just didn't expect to have to prepare for one here lol. The storm is suppose to hit NYC as a category 1 on late Saturday/early Sunday and stick around till late Sunday. Being my first hurricane here in NY I am a little worried about the structure of the house. I know in FL, houses and building are built to withstand hurricane force winds, but here in NY, I have no idea!! Iv been through 2 MAJOR hurricanes including Katrina and Andrew along with a tons of smaller ones. But I heard here the worry isn't wind, its rain! They say everything is going to flood!! In 20 minutes (12PM) public transportation in the city will be shut down, thats the first time in history that NY subways have been shut down due to weather conditions. If that wasn't enough to make me worry, President Obama's comment "This is going to be a historical hurricane", has really sent me into panic mode. But I'm trying to stay calm. I got my water, food and batteries along with some drinks and a game. I have room mates so we will all be having a hurricane party to pass the time. I might not be blogging for a few days if we have any power outages so Im going to try to get out what I can today. Hope my east coast neighbors are ok and I pray for everyones safety!

What Is The Best Sigma Kit For Me?

When it comes to buying makeup brushes, there are so many options out there, It can be a little overwhelming. Most of us don't have money to spend on a brushs only to receive it and realize that it doesn't fit our needs. So here it is, a Beauty Blurbz Brush Breakdown!
Sigma is known for their great quality brushes and their fun colorful collections, they are also reasonably priced compared to other companies. I was looking into getting a Sigma brushes for myself but with so many options, it as hard to decide. It all comes down to whether you are looking for a complete set that included every brush you will need to apply your makeup from start to finish, or specific sets for just your face, just your eyes, or possibly even for travel. Either way, here are a few options broken down for you to help you make a better decision.

3 Complete Kit Options

1. Complete Kit Without Brush Roll (Black $79) :This is the cheapest option. It's a 12 piece set that does not include a brush roll, and its the best option for someone who wants more brushes for a better price. This set includes all the basics you will need to apply your makeup. This set is only available in Black.
Kit Includes:
Eyeliner - E05 - An extra-fine tipped synthetic fiber brush that delivers a precise, firm, even stroke to line the eyes. Pencil - E30 - Precise application of color on the crease, outer corner, and upper and lower lash line. Also ideal to smudge out pencil liner. Natural bristles.Tapered Blending - E40 - Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. Natural bristles. Eye Shading - E55 - Soft and dense with a rounded finish. Can be used to apply pressed or loose eye shadows and pigments. Ideal to build intense color on the eyelid. Natural bristles.Small Angle - E65 - Essential for the application of gel or cream eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line. This brush is also excellent for filling out the eyebrows. Synthetic bristles.Large Shader - E60 - Flat shape is ideal for application of cream formulas and eye shadow primers. It also works great with loose eye shadows or pigments. Can be used to apply color all over the lid or precisely on the lash line. Natural bristles.Medium Angled Shading - E70 - Angled, tapered, flat top. Ideal to apply highlight shades underneath the eyebrow and on the inner corners. It can also be used for a precise application of darker shades on the crease area. Natural bristles.Large Powder - F30 - Very dense with a rounded top. Ideal to apply powder products on face and body. Natural bristles. Large Angled Contour - F40 - The angled shape makes this brush ideal to apply blush or contour shades. Natural bristles.Duo Fibre - F50 - Specially designed to generate an ‘airbrushed’ finish when used to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply blush, highlight shades and loose pigments. Blend of synthetic and natural bristles.Foundation - F60 - Can be used to apply liquid or cream foundation. It is also recommended to apply moisturizers and conceal large areas. Synthetic bristles.Concealer - F70 - The rounded, tapered, flat shape makes this brush ideal to conceal the under eye area. It is also recommended for a precise application in small areas. Synthetic bristles.

2.Complete Kit with Brush Roll (Black $99): Its the exact same kit as the Complete Kit for $79 except it includes a black faux leather brush roll.

3. Make Me Up ($99) : Again, this kit is the exact same kit as the Complete Kit for $79  except you get 4 adorable colors to choose from and a durable case that splits into 2 cups that can be used to store your brushes on your vanity. This kit is available in Coral, Purple, Black and Aqua.

When trying to decide between these 3 options, I recommend you ask yourselves the following questions:
1. Do I really need colorful brushes? Will I like my brushes any less if they are not colorful?
2.Do I really need the brush storage? Will I really be traveling or taking my brush kit from place to place?
3. If I need the brush storage, do I plan on storing in inside a drawer or train case or on top of my vanity?
4. Do I want to save $20 and not get a kit with a brush storage?

5 Economical Kit Options

1 & 2. Face and Eyes Kit: OK, these kits are options if you really want to be economical and don't necessarily need brushes for your entire face. I think this is a great option if you do want to have all the brushes in the Complete Kit but cant afford to get them all at once.

Both these kit combined makeup the Complete Kit Without Brush Roll $79. If you do want the Complete Kit but cant afford it all right now, think about this... f you buy the Face Kit and Eyes Kit separately you will pay $45x2=$90, not to mention the shipping for them individually. It might be smart to wait a little longer and get the Complete Kit for $79. or maybe you don't need both!
Consider the method you apply your makeup. For example, I use a Beauty Blender to apply my foundation and already have my Crown brushes for powder and blush. I don't really need any face brushes. If I can get over how totally cute the Make Me Up Kit is, I will probably get the Eyes Kit.

Face Kit Includes:
Large Powder - F30: Very dense with a rounded top. Ideal to apply powder products on face and body. Natural bristles.
Large Angled Contour - F40: The angled shape makes this brush ideal to apply blush or contour shades. Natural bristles.
Duo Fibre - F50 :Specially designed to generate an ‘airbrushed’ finish when used to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply blush, highlight shades and loose pigments. Blend of synthetic and natural bristles.
Foundation - F60 :Can be used to apply liquid or cream foundation. It is also recommended to apply moisturizers and conceal large areas. Synthetic bristles.
Concealer - F70 :The rounded, tapered, flat shape makes this brush ideal to conceal the under eye area. It is also recommended for a precise application in small areas. Synthetic bristles.

Eyes Kit Includes:
Eyeliner - E05: An extra-fine tipped synthetic fiber brush that delivers a precise, firm, even stroke to line the eyes.
Pencil - E30: Precise application of color on the crease, outer corner, and upper and lower lash line. Also ideal to smudge out pencil liner. Natural bristles.
Tapered Blending - E40: Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. Natural bristles.
Eye Shading - E55: Soft and dense with a rounded finish. Can be used to apply pressed or loose eye shadows and pigments. Ideal to build intense color on the eyelid. Natural bristles.
Large Shader - E60: Flat shape is ideal for application of cream formulas and eye shadow primers. It also works great with loose eye shadows or pigments. Can be used to apply color all over the lid or precisely on the lash line. Natural bristles.
Small Angle - E65: Essential for the application of gel or cream eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line. This brush is also excellent for filling out the eyebrows. Synthetic bristles.
Medium Angled Shading - E70: Angled, tapered, flat top. Ideal to apply highlight shades underneath the eyebrow and on the inner corners. It can also be used for a precise application of darker shades on the crease area. Natural bristles.

3. Face and Eyes Kit ($54): This set is your best bet if you need both face and eye brushes but cant afford to splurge for the complete set. This kit includes 3 face brushes and 3 eye Brushes!
Face and Eyes Kit Includes:
Pencil - E30-  Precise application of color on the crease, outer corner, and upper and lower lash line. Also ideal to smudge out pencil liner. Natural bristles.
Tapered Blending - E40 - Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. Natural bristles.

4 & 5. Travel Kit and Premium Travel Kit ($49): These 2 kits are basically the best of the complete set. They includes 7 brushes. The Premium Kit comes in black, silver, baby pink and hot pink. Both kits come with a brush roll.

If you travel a lot and want to kill 2 birds with 1 stone or if you don't mind having a shorter handle, this is a perfect kit for you. In my honest opinion, this is the best deal. Each brush comes out to $7 each  and you get a brush roll and its ideal for you to travel with. Who can beat that? There is nothing wrong with using travel brushes as your everyday brushes. They are the same bristles and and shape, just with a shorter handle.
